Midway between Berlin and Warsaw and an important trade center since the Middle Ages, Poznań is the economic and administrative center of Poland’s Wielkopolska region. With a population of 1.4 million, it is the country’s fifth-largest metropolitan area. An economic powerhouse with the second-biggest local economy after Warsaw, Poznań has the highest GDP per capita and the lowest unemployment level of any Polish city.

Poznań’s economy is dominated by the service sector, especially financial services, as well as trade and education. Poznań’s other industries include automotive, pharmaceutical and food processing. Demand for logistics is driven in part by the many manufacturers that have a presence in Poznań, including Volkswagen, Bridgestone, Unilever, Wrigley and GlaxoSmithKline.

Because of its location between Warsaw and Berlin, Poznań was the country’s largest logistics hub historically. It was the location of the first owner-occupied logistics facilities for third-party firms and is home to the Higher School of Logistics and the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing, a state-owned research and development unit established more than 40 years ago. A cluster of industrial properties and warehouses have sprung up in and around Poznań.

Seven major interregional and international roadways converge in Poznań, including the A2 motorway that connects Germany to Łódź and Warsaw (and soon to Belarus). The Poznań-Franowo railway station, one of the largest freight terminals in Poland, is the site of growing intermodal logistics and distribution operations. The regional Poznań- Ławica Airport serves 1.7 million passengers a year and handles more than 3,000 tons of cargo. And the largest container terminal in Poland operates in nearby Gądki, allowing access to North Sea ports.

Prologis operates industrial properties and warehouses in the Poznań region.
