Opportunity
GEODIS Group, a worldwide transport and logistics leader with a global network covering 120 countries, needed to establish a facility in Hungary, primarily at the request of its customer Indesit, a leading European manager of white goods. GEODIS required a strategic, rail-served location on the west side of Budapest that could facilitate delivery of white goods being transported by rail from Italy. GEODIS chose to work with Prologis because of its deep, on-the-ground knowledge of the local area and its build-to-suit expertise in delivering complex projects tailored to specific customer needs, on budget and on time.
Challenge
The customer required a very specific location on the west side of Budapest for its logistics needs, where a modern, state-of-the-art build-to-suit facility could be built in an infill area. Additionally, the site needed to be served by rail as well as enjoy easy access to major highways for the onward distribution of goods.
Solution
Prologis conducted an extensive search for appropriate sites and ultimately secured the site in Budaörs, located 9 kilometers west of Budapest city center, from another landowner. Prologis completed the BTS facility as an infill project, delivering the 27,800 square meter building in two phases in 2005. The completed facility features abundant warehouse and office space, ample truck and car parking, and a rail-served, canopy-covered railway ramp that is 224 meters long by 6 meters deep, with 10 rail drive-in doors. The warehouse space has a clear height of 10 meters; electrical loading docks with weather shelter and overhead level doors; 26 dock levelers and two drive-in-doors. There is 300 square meters of office space located on two levels.
